Makin’ it Fun

I love to support fellow women who love fitness and health, as well as girl bosses who are entrepreneurs and about their business. Bernadette from Make It Fun NYC is just that.

As an avid follower of hers on Instagram and Snapchat, her love of jump rope and her focus on  business is inspiring.

That’s why when she posted that she was teaching a jumprope class in Manhattan, I knew I had to make myself available.

We were an intimate group of four and started off with a nice warmup. When it was time for jumping rope, I used a rope I ordered from her site, the Buddy Lee Aerospeed Hyperperformance Jump Rope

Bernadette led us with clear instructions from the start. Most importantly, she explained the safe way to jump. We needed to jump on our toes and just high enough to clear the rope.

After the explanation, then came the workout. We did intervals and sets, including but not limited to basic jumps, reverse jumps, jump rope jacks, forward and backs, ski jumps, and criss-crosses.

As soon as I knew it, I was drenched in sweat and took off my shirt to just my sports bra. My heart rate was also climbing up to 170 on my Garmin Vivosmart.

What kept me going throughout class was her energy! Her positivity was so much more infectious in person than on social media.

She cheered us on, gave personal feedback, jumped to demonstrate moves, and overall made our workout so much more enjoyable.

That being said, Bernadette stayed true to her name and made it fun. Not once did I want to stop jumping!

By the time it was over, I burned over 400 calories in the 45 minutes of active jumping. Never have I jumped like I jumped in her class.

I am telling you guys, let’s aspire to make our workouts more fun. Whatever you love to do, incorporate it into your routine! For me, I can see myself adding more jump rope routines due to this awesome class.

If anyone wants to join in, check out her site and book a class with her. You won’t regret it!
